The Fella' With The Ukulele
|
|
This is the title of one of the songs I wrote. In fact it's become my theme tune!!
I am a member of the George Formby Appreciation Society (GFS) and the Ukulele Society Of Great Britain (USGB).
With fellow George Formby fans, I have played in Normandy, Flanders,Ireland, Cyprus and the Isle of Man.
We have branches across the UK so there is always somewhere close by to meet fellow enthusiasts. In addition we meet four times a year at The Winter Gardens in Blackpool where there is the opportunity to play on a theatre stage in front of a large audience.
The USGB meets twice a year in Digswell and its membership comprises players with love of all types of music who play jazz, blues, 20's,30's,40's,50's,classical, country, folk, pop etc.
Me, well I play all sorts too. Of course I play George Formby songs (of which there are over 200) but I also play olde tyme, country, folk ,pop, irish.
I also write my own songs and make ALL my own backing music with a range of other instruments, some of which appear on the following pages.
Give me a call if you want to know more or check out the link to the GFS.
As we say "in the trade" - Happy Plonkin'(nothing personal).
My Instruments :.
My main banjolele is a GRIFFIN. Sadly these are no longer made. It is a lovely instrument & can be seen in some of the pictures on this site. :
I also own a GIBSON UB3. I bought this off eBay. It is principally a GIBSON though I am advised that some parts are "foreign". Nonetheless, it's main claim to fame was that it was used on the last Beatles video (Free as a Bird)by Alan Randall. I also have a letter of authentication & a picture of Alan playing it for the video. I's a lovely item.
On the ukulele front, my main instrument was imported from Brazil and is a stunningly beautiful CAVAQUINHO GIANNINI GCSM10 (a uke with an electric pick up). The tone and quality of this instrument is truly amazing.
Like most musicians, I also have a motley collection of nondescript intruments by unknown or little known makers. Such is my restored "Ireland" uke. It plays well and occasionally get an airing!
